Detestment

I really hate putting away the food after dinner. Really, it is my least favorite chore. I would rather iron, or vacuum or do the laundry or even do all the dishes (or maybe even all of those combined) and have someone else put the food away.

There's just something about finding the right size container and then finding a freaking lid for it and then scraping the food from the pot into the container... bleh. I don't even know what it is about it that I truly detest. When I think about putting the food away, I just want to whine until someone else does it. Which is completely not like me... I think (I hope).

I told Andrew this last night. We were sitting on the couch and I asked him "Will you please put the food away" which actually wasn't an unreasonable request since I had cooked dinner. Of course he obliged but I suddenly felt motivated to expound on my own feelings on the subject. He didn't (and doesn't) really understand it, which I guess is understandable since it seems like such a simple thing to do in the first place.

The farthest back I can trace this hatred is probably about middle school. I don't have a clear or specific memory, but I think it slowly began to dawn on me that these feelings of discontentment were emanating from leftover food sitting on the stove.

What's your least favorite chore? What would you do to get out of it?

  1. Now the real question is: Do you hate putting the food away more or cleaning out the fridge full of leftover containers?
