On Jet Lag

I broke the first rule of jet lag
What is the first rule of jet lag?
Be asleep during the night and awake during the day.
We were both doing so well! And then we just couldn't take it anymore.

Andrew kind of has an excuse: he wasn't feeling so great all afternoon (please bless that he doesn't actually get sick). So he laid down at about 5 and I just couldn't stop myself from joining him. I rationalized it in so many ways, of course. "I'm not really going to sleep" "I have such a headache" "Andrew NEEDS me!" All I really did was fall asleep right away.

So here it is, 7:30 in the morning, and I've already been up for an hour. Because that's the vicious cycle with jet lag! I'll be super tired when tonight rolls around, not only because my body thinks it the middle of the night, but also because I got up at 6:30 in the morning (who does that? Pfft).

Trip: No More Days Left

This is it. The end. Finite. Last post of the trip and maybe for a few days. You'll just have to live with it.

Today we are in Vienna. Well, actually, this evening. We had time for 4 things: St. Steven's Cathedral, St. Peter's Church, gelato, and a conversation with a woman who spoke about 3 words of English.

The last one was the highlight; this woman was so tickled to be talking with us, it was heartwarming. She helped us find our bus stop and told us all about her son and 5 grand kids that live in America... I think. Also, she told us we'll have 6 kids. So now I know :)

Also, Blogger is having trouble posting pictures so you don't get any today, and for that I'm sure Blogger is sorry.

Trip: 1 Day Left

Well, it's really winding down now. I will be glad to have 3G and phone service again. Also, real in-&-out.

Today we are in Dubrovnik. The city that made famous because the bachelorette came here. It is a really cool city; the whole thing is built on a series of hills. There are tons of stairs and really steep streets. Also lots of foreigners. It is definitely the most touristy place we've been.

The pictures of the city are from our balcony. The one of Andrew was at dinner tonight; this is post-Europe-Andrew.

Trip: 2 Days Left

So most of this trip has been done with the main goal being to keep it as cheap as possible.
Yesterday we threw that all out the window and decided to rent a scooter for 2 days. It wasn't exactly expensive but it wasn't cheap either. Anyway, it was the best decision we ever made! We have had so much fun! Yesterday we took the scooter on the ferry to an island and drove until we found a nice secluded beach.
Today, we drove down the coast to Brela, which claims to be the most beautiful beach in Europe. It was beautiful, but also pretty crowded, so we just hopped back on our scooter and drove to find another secluded beach (the picture with the sheet hanging is where we ended up. Completely private).
We also drove through Omis which is where the Makarska river joins the Adriatic Sea (it's the picture of the cliffs). Fun fact: in Croatian, Makarska means cherry juice.
Tonight, we went down to the old town and what should we stumble upon but a fashion show! Good day!

Sorry the pictures are out of order. The blogger app does it and I can't fix it.

Trip: 3 More Days

I can't believe we only have 3 days left. It is so crazy and it feels like we've been gone forever. It will be interesting getting back to real life.
Right now we are taking a ferry back to Split from the beautiful island of Brac where we spent the day. Today was a beach day and one of the best days of the trip.
In Croatia, the beaches are mostly rocky, but really smooth rock. It's nice. So on this beach that we went to there were tons of big rocks up against cliffs, which created these little alcoves that were almost like private beaches. I was so in heaven that I forgot to get a picture of ours.
Here are some other pictures, though. The city is Split and the water/beach is Brac.

Trip: 4 Days Left

We found a phone charger!!!!
Let me tell you, it was a struggle. But we are now the proud owners of a USB-to-eastern European wall plug charger. Hooray! I'm sure we will use it tons.
Anyway, lack of phone charger means lack of battery life which means lack of blog posting.
I am back and ready to tell you that we traveled from Zadar to Split today! What a miserable bus ride. But worth it as we are staying 3 days here. The longest we are staying anywhere.
So here are some pictures from our time in Zadar.

Trip: Day 2 more

We were very American today. We sat on the bus with 2 American girls and laughed our loud American laughs. Then, we swam for 10 minutes in the ocean and decided we'd had enough. Then we ate at in-&-out. Yep, you read that right. As in the hamburger joint. See for yourselves:

Trip: Day 1 more

So, fun story: somehow we fried the converter for our phone charger so we've had to get pretty creative with how we charge our map/watch/alarm clock/way to stay in touch (aka our phones). Ideas have included using the USB port on the front of the cable box in our room and leaving our phones in the hands of people who only speak Croatian in the hope of something happening. So anyway, that's why there was no update yesterday.

Basically, yesterday consisted of 3 different trains and a bus.

Today was muuuch better!
This is what we got to see today.

We hiked around these lakes for about 5 hours today and I am convinced that it's actually a piece of Eden on earth.

Trip: Day next

Today we walked. A lot. And then we found a McDonald's so we could do our daily post. So here I am sitting amongst the fries, captioning pictures on pretty decent wifi compared to the rest of the country.

Anyway, here are some pics from today.
(Not in order): the train- rockin it Harry potter style.
Some really beautiful tile we saw
Ruins, churches and some water.
